Diego López de Lera, PhD in Sociology (1994), Complutense University of Madrid. Master in Demography (1984), Latin American Demographic Center, United Nations, Santiago, Chile. Currently (since 1998) is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Coruña.

 In his professional experience included the direction of Vital Statistics Department of the Central Bureau of Statistics of Venezuela (1985). Coordinator of International Migration, in Institute of Demography of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, Spain (1989-1994). As consultants performed for various international organizations (OECD, UN) and national (Junta de Andalucía, Provincial Government of Navarra, Galicia Board, Community of Madrid) and, finally, Coordinator of Master in Sociology of International Migration ( 2010-11), at the University of Coruña.

His research interests have focused mainly on the study of the dynamics of population growth, the analysis of international migration flows and the situation of the foreign population in the host countries. In recent years there has been several studies and publications on these topics, in particular on the impact of foreign immigration on population dynamics of population growth, and the government's response to the presence of foreign immigrants.

In recent years she has been involved in a number of research projects into migration and demographics, several of which are listed below:

    • Study on "Processes of return of foreign immigrants in Spain." Funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (CSO2008-03561. January 2009-June 2012).
    • Study on the "Impact of immigration on the population dynamics of the Andalusian population" (Agreement between the Institute of Statistics of Andalusia and the University of Coruña. 2008-09).
    • "Manual for the care and integration of immigrants in Galicia" (Agreement between the General Secretariat for Emigration of the Galician regional government and the University of Coruña. 2006).
    • Coordination of the study "Demography of Foreigners: impact on population growth" (sponsored by the BBVA Foundation. 2003-05).
