Received the Award for the Most Outstanding Graduate from the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology (Autonomous University of Barcelona, 1998). She also holds an MA in Sociological Research in Health Care (University of Warwick, 2000, with a Batista i Roca Scholarship) and a PhD in Sociology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales de Paris (18/03/2005; FPU Scholarship, awarded by the Spanish MS&T).

Her doctoral thesis, entitled “La enajenación de l@s otr@s. Estudio sociológico sobre el tratamiento de la alteridad en la atención a la salud mental en Barcelona y Paris” (The alienation of others: a sociological study into the treatment of alterity in mental health care in Barcelona and Paris), directed by   Carlota Solé i Puig and Didier Fassin and awarded a unanimous grade of cum laude), is available at http://www.tdx.cesca.es/TDX-0718106-135329/index.html. Since 2006, she has held the post of PhD Researcher thanks to Fullbright, Juan de la Cierva and Spanish Education and Science Ministry post–doctoral programmes. She has also held research posts at l’EHESS-Paris (France) and the INSIDE Research Unit (University of Luxembourg). Although her main areas of activity have been centred on research, she has also taught at first degree  (UAB, UG and University of Luxembourg), Master’s degree (UAB, UdC) and PhD (EHESS and UAB) level, lecturing in the following subjects: the sociology of health; migrant and minority management programmes; social and health policies: access, use and connection with social inequality and discrimination; care policies and morality in social intervention; theories of human development and the perspective of intersectionality.

Research projects

She is the Principal Researcher for the following projects:

  • “La influència del procés de reagrupament familiar sobre les relacions intrafamiliars i el seu benestar biopsicosocial” (GEDIME, UAB), financed by the UAB (2006-2007, EME2006-12) and the Institut Català de les Dones (U14/06). Team members included Soledad Bermann, Leonardo Bejarano, Rosalina Alcade, Isabel Benítez Romero y Jennifer Márquez Moyano
  • “Santé et Prévention chez des Rroms/tsiganes en Ile-de-France”(EHESS, 2008-2011), financed by the INPES/IReSP and whose members included Pierre Aïach, Yannick Lucas, Norah Benarosh, Stéphanie Achte, Dana Cercenautu, Yann Beldame et Katarina Karabencheva.
  • Principal Investigator with Michèle Baumann the research “Mental health problems and needs observed by health and social professionals in Luxembourg”
  • Related to project “Estrategias y trayectorias transnacionales de movilidad social de las familias de migrantes en España” (IP: Laura Oso Casas).

Publications

In terms of her scientific production she has published widely and is the co-editor of a monographic work published in PAPERS, as well as the author of chapters published in Spanish and international works, articles in Spanish and international specialised and indexed journals. Her intense scientific activity also includes the organisation of congresses and sessions at international conventions, as well as participation in numerous congresses and events.
