Project summary:
This project addresses one of the main social challenges facing ageing societies: the model of long-term care in care homes for the elderly. It analyses the care home model from a critical perspective that links the organisation of work and labour precarity, with the quality of life and well-being of residents.
The main objective is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge about the care model in care homes for old peope in Spain, emphasising the changes needed to ensure social inclusion, quality of care and improved working conditions.
The specific objectives of the project are structured around four analytical axes: 1) models of management and work organisation; 2) the working and living conditions of care workers; 3) the well-being and quality of life of residents; and 4) the implementation of initiatives aimed at providing person-centred care.
The project methodology is mainly qualitative, although a statistical approach to the sector is also used. Qualitative techniques such as semi-structured interviews, focus groups and direct observation will be deployed. Fieldwork is being carried out in four different autonomous communities (Castilla-La Mancha, Community of Madrid, Galicia and the Balearic Islands) to explore territorial diversity in the national context.
