Antía Eijo Mejuto

Xunta de Galicia Predoctoral Researcher

Antía Eijo Mejuto is a predoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Sociology at the Universidade da Coruña, who is funded by the Xunta de Galicia. She graduated in Social Work from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (2018) and completed a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2020), where she won second prize in the Mayte Gallego Awards for her dissertation ‘Mujeres migradas, violencias y crisis de cuidados: diagnóstico, respuestas y propuestas de la Red de Mujeres latinoamericanas y del Caribe en España frente al COVID-19’ [Migrant women, violence and the care crisis: analysis, solutions and proposals from the Spanish Network of Latin American and Caribbean Women in response to the COVID-19 pandemic]. Meanwhile, her undergraduate dissertation was published in Revista Galega de Traballo Social ‘Fervenzas’ in 2020 under the title ‘Imaxinario das traballadoras sociais do Concello de Santiago de Compostela: unha análise cualitativa dende a perspectiva de xénero’ [Worldview of social workers in the municipality of Santiago de Compostela: a qualitative analysis through the lens of gender].

In recent years, Antía has worked as a social worker and social intervention officer in the areas of migration and rural development. Reflecting her work experience, her research interests centre on gender, migration and care. She is currently working on her PhD thesis, which explores the social economy in long-term care, with a particular focus on the role of domestic and care worker cooperatives.
