Carlos Diz 

Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences, Universidade da Coruña

Carlos Diz is Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences at the Universidade da Coruña. He holds a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology and his main areas of research are collective action and social movements; the anthropology of the body and emotions; urban studies; (im)mobilities; and ethnographic fieldwork. His PhD thesis, ‘Políticas y tácticas del cuerpo: retablos de la ciudad activista’ [Politics and tactics of the body: tableaux of the activist city] (2016), was awarded a cum laude distinction and the Extraordinary Award from the Universidade da Coruña. Carlos has completed research stays at the Université de Bordeaux, the Gino Germani Research Institute at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Universidad de Chile. His most recent publications include: ‘The Lost City: The Pathos of Arab Jerusalem’, in Benjamin Linder (ed.) Urban Dreams: 50 Years of Invisible Cities (2023. Palgrave, with Arpan Roy); ‘Caring Democracy Now: Neighbourhood Support Networks in the Wake of the 15-M’ (2022. Social Movement Studies, with Brais Estévez and Raquel Martínez-Buján); and ‘Música trap en España: estéticas juveniles en tiempos de crisis’ (2021. AIBR, Revista Iberoamericana de Antropología, with Raúl Rey-Gayoso).
