Leticia Santaballa santos

Project Officer

Leticia Santaballa Santos is a research support technician hired in the frame of the Consolidation and structuring of competitive research units (ED431C_2022/45), at the Faculty of Sociology of the University of A Coruña.

She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Santiago de Compostela, a Master’s degree in Development Cooperation specialising in Integrated Management of Local Development from the University of Valencia and a Master’s degree in Social Policy and Socio-Community Intervention specialising in migration from the University of A Coruña.

Leticia is writing her PhD thesis on the reception of migrants in Spanish shrinking rural areas, linked to the H2020 project “Investing in ‘Welcoming Spaces’ in Europe: revitalizing shrinking areas by hosting non-EU migrants (WELCOMING SPACES) (Grant nº 870952), and participates as a researcher in the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), Staff Exchange project entitled: A New Measure of Socioeconomic Inequalities for International Comparison (INCASI 2) aimed at building a new analytical model of socioeconomic inequalities.

Alternating periods of field work with other academically active periods in Spain, Greece and France, she has researched on multilevel initiatives for the reception of asylum seekers in the Peninsula and has worked as a social intervention technician for migrants, a technician for the socio-professional insertion of young adults in economically depressed areas through international mobility, an agent of local participation of people at risk of social exclusion and coordinator of the educational area of spaces where people seeking international protection were temporarily residing. As a result of her experience in the field, she offers research that is committed to social movements, multidisciplinary and seeks critical and innovative approaches.
