Project Officer

Leticia Santaballa Santos is a predoctoral researcher on the ‘Welcoming Spaces-H2020’ project at the Faculty of Sociology at the Universidade da Coruña. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, a Master’s Degree in Development Cooperation from the Universidad de Valencia, specialising in comprehensive management of local development, and a Master’s Degree in Social Policies and Community Intervention from the Universidade da Coruña, specialising in migration.

Leticia is currently writing her PhD thesis on good practices in the revitalisation of economically and/or demographically depressed areas in Spain, which have emerged as welcoming spaces for people migrating to the country. Alternating periods of fieldwork with academic activity in Spain, Greece and France, she has researched multi-level initiatives for asylum seeker reception in Spain and worked as a social intervention officer with migrant people, a social and professional integration officer working to offer young adults in economically deprived areas opportunities for international mobility, a local participation officer with people at risk of social exclusion and an education coordinator at temporary reception centres for people claiming international protection. As a result of her extensive field experience, she takes a multidisciplinary, innovative approach to her research, which also engages with social movements.
