Antonio Izquierdo

Full Professor of Sociology, Universidade da Coruña

Antonio Izquierdo holds a Bachelor’s Degree and PhD in Sociology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he was ranked number 1 and received the Bachelor’s Degree Extraordinary Award and PhD Extraordinary Award. He also graduated in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Centre Nacional de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and in Political Sociology from the Instituto de Estudios Políticos.

Antonio is an Academician at the Spanish Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences and a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He received the National Research Award from the Consejo Económico y Social de España (CES) in 2001. He represented Spain at the OECD as an expert on international migration from 1989 to 2008.

Antonio has had 36 years of research activity (six six-year research periods) officially recognised by the Comisión Nacional Evaluadora de la Actividad Investigadora (CNEAI) throughout his academic career. His main area of research is migration policy. Two of his most recent articles are ‘Política de inmigración y ciudadanía en el nuevo escenario: algunas propuestas’ (2016) and ‘Integrar para regular: tres hipótesis de trabajo para una política de inmigración a medio y largo plazo’ (2019). His latest books are Crítica de la inmigración imaginada (2016), Mareas de pluralismo. Minorías religiosas en Galicia (2014), Políticas de control migratorio: estudio comparado de España y Estados Unidos (2012) and La migración de la memoria histórica (2011).
