Laura Suárez-Grimalt

Laura Suárez-Grimalt is an Acting Associate Professor (substitute) at the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences at the Universidade da Coruña. She is a member of the Societies in Movement Research Team (ESOMI) and an expert on social research techniques and international migration. Within this context, she has participated in several research projects included in the Spanish National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation (FEM2011-26210, SEJ2007-63179). As an FPU predoctoral researcher with the Department of Sociology at the Universitat de Barcelona, she also worked on the European project ‘Global Trends in Social Inequalities in Europe and Latin America and Exploring Innovative Ways to Reduce Them Through Life, Occupational and Educational Trajectories Research to Face Uncertainty’ (INCASI), which was funded under the H2020 programme. Her research interests revolve around the impact of social capital on migration trajectories; the role of religion in shaping transnational social networks; and the social mobility strategies employed by Latin American migrants in Spain, with a particular focus on Brazilian immigration. She has had a number of articles published on these topics, including ‘Towards a theoretical model for the study of productive and reproductive strategies in transnational families: Latin American migration and social mobility in Spain’ (Oso. L & Suárez-Grimalt, L. 2017. Journal of Family Studies).
