Mateo Nuñez

FPU Predoctoral Researcher

Mateo Núñez Martínez is a predoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Sociology at the Universidade da Coruña as part of the national FPU programme. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology (Universidade da Coruña) and completed a Master’s Degree in History and Sociocultural Analysis (Universidad de Oviedo) in 2021. His undergraduate dissertation explored future prospects and socioeconomic opportunities in the Bierzo mining basin and received first class honours, while his master’s dissertation took a historiographic approach and sought to reconstruct the labour and social conflicts arising in the region. He is currently working on his PhD thesis, which is a comparative study of the links between migration and local development projects in three case study countries: Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. He is also participating in the European project ‘Welcoming Spaces-H2020’. Mateo’s main areas of interest relate to the revitalisation of rural areas; public local development policies; migration trajectories and projects; and industrial restructuring. He specialises in qualitative methodologies, especially those used in social and cultural anthropology.
