Raúl Rey Gayoso is a Xunta de Galicia predoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Sociology at the Universidade da Coruña, where he is working on his PhD thesis with supervision from Raquel Martínez Buján and Carlos Diz. After graduating in Sociology from the Universidade da Coruña in 2019, he completed a Master’s Degree in Social Policies and Community Intervention at UDC, specialising in ageing and family change. He wrote his master’s dissertation on the social and working conditions experienced by nursing staff in care homes in Lugo province as part of a service learning programme with the Official Nursing College of Lugo. Raúl is currently working on his PhD thesis, which analyses recent changes to the care home system in Galicia as part of the model of care adopted in the region, with a particular focus on the employment structure in the sector, the organisation of care work in these homes and the occupational strategies employed by health and social care workers.
