Summary:
This project is a continuation of the research ‘New Intra-European Mobilities: Decisions on Employment, Family, and Politics among Spanish Transmigrants’ (NewEUmob: CSO2017-84618-P, 2018-2021), led by Anastasia Bermúdez and Beltrán Roca, which studied Spanish migration to the European Union (EU) since 2008.
The research objective is to analyze how intersections between recent crises, particularly since the arrival of COVID in 2020, impact Spanish transnational families, studying the interrelations between care and labor needs, on the one hand, and new (im)mobility strategies, on the other.
It is framed within the strategic line “spatial inequalities, migrations, and multiculturalism,” and with an improved methodological strategy, it aims to contribute new theoretical and empirical knowledge, while also seeking solutions to current problems. To this end, it focuses on the following questions: a) How are these various crises interconnected, producing impacts on the labor and family experiences of migrants from an intersectional gender perspective?; b) What is the impact of these crises and experiences on the new (im)mobility strategies of migrants in responding to both barriers and opportunities?; and c) How do we reconceptualize new intra-European mobilities in a context of growing instability and precarization, considering legal frameworks and public policies?
